first clue that it was going to be nasty... it blew up from the wrong direction! never good when the wind is blowing in from the direction of where storms go AFTER they pass us... and the clouds are going in opposite directions. swirling clouds are never a good sign. and poor Michael was out in the field that night!
i don't really know what a wall cloud is exactly... all i know is that i watched that "wall" of clouds come towards us and cover us up... it was crazy standing out on the porch watching it come in...
it is crazy...and a bit surreal as well - i'm not accustom to storm cells; one minute you see blue sky, the next a few clouds, then suddenly cars are being tossed everywhere, trees uprooted, roofs fly past you (okay, that's a bit dramatic...but it makes my point: they're scary!)
yea, i think the first photo might qualify as a shelf cloud, not so much a wall cloud, at least based on the bit of reading and pictures that i saw online.
storms like that are a bit chilling... makes me wish we had a basement... or at least didn't live on the 2nd floor.

yes...i'd say it looks as if it was stormy! isn't that almost a shelf cloud in the first shot?
i meant 'wall cloud' -- see, i'm still getting used to it all...
